Scripture On Perseverance
It’s easy to give up when life gets tough. However, it’s important to remember that life is full of trying times and it’s the perseverance that will help us overcome. The Bible offers many verses about perseverance to remind us of what is possible when we stay on course despite hardships. When Abraham was 100 years old, he made a covenant with God.
He said: “I am now an hundred years old; I do not know how much longer this world has in store for me. If there is still time left over – so let it be! But if not, may my name perish from the earth.” (Genesis 17:17)
The word translated as ‘perish’ here means to die or disappear completely. It can also mean to fail or fall short. In other words, Abraham knew his life would end one day but he didn’t want to live without faithfulness to God. So he asked God to take him at any age before then. This shows us that even though our lives are finite, they don’t have to be meaningless. We should use them wisely and faithfully because we will only get a limited number of chances.
