What Happens when you Die according to the Bible

The Bible is full of verses about life after death. These verses provide guidance on what happens to someone when they die. As Christians we believe in eternal life after death – that’s heaven. In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 – describes how the believers who have died will rise from their graves, while those who will be alive will be caught up in the clouds to meet the LORD in the air.
Those who refused salvation offered freely by our Lord Jesus, will go to eternal condemnation – hell. That’s according to Matthew 25:46 – “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
What we can learn from these verses is that there is life after death and we have the free will to choose where we end up, now is the time. We can accept Jesus as our saviour and lead a godly life or refuse to accept the salvation and continue with ungodly life.

Here some verses to help you choose the eternal life with God:

John 3:16 (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The eternal salvation is not earned by our hard work- it’s free gift, by faith through grace – that our Lord Jesus Christ died for sins. He paid for the ransom that we are set free by confessing our sins and accepting him as Saviour and Lord. He was made to pay for our sins, even though He had commited none. He is ever holy. He defeated death and resurrected, and we are assured if we have Him in our heart, we will also be resurrected as He was.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NIV)

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
